Good Morning 4th & 5th Graders,

All students should return to the same seat they had yesterday. If you were not here yesterday wait until everyone has sat down and then find an empty computer.

Everyone should begin class today with 15 minutes of typing in MasterKey. Remember that this is not time to talk. And you should be working on a drill at your highest completed level.

4th Graders: If you didn’t finish yesterday’s project please complete it so we can go over it next time I see you. (See yesterday’s blog for details.) If you are finished you may use the remaining time to visit some more places in Oregon. I’ve made a list below.

Crater Lake
Mount Hood National Forest
Sea Lion Caves, OR
Rooster Rock State Park, OR
Crown Point Vista House, OR
Heceta Head Lighthouse, OR
Alvord Desert, OR
Steens Mountains, OR
Wallowa Lake, OR

5th Graders: When you are finished typing, please return to finding images for you your Astronomy Project. Please use images only from the hubblesite.org or wikipedia.org.
Remember that if you want to save an image, hold the “Control” key down on your keyboard and click on the image. From the pop up window select “Add Image to iPhoto Library”. This only works in Safari.

4th Graders: When typing time is over you will go on a fact finding journey through Oregon. For this journey you will need to take a few notes. An easy place to store you notes is in “Text Edit”. Don’t forget to save using you name as a title.

Here is what you should do next:
Open Google Earth. In the “Search” panel select “Directions”. In the two search boxes type Portland, OR to Bend, OR.
There are a few things I’d like you to find along the way. Make sure that Geographic Web and Terrain are checked in the Layers panel.

1. What Volcano do you pass by on your way out of Portland?
2. In this same area how far is Trillium Lake from Brunt Lake?
3. What is the name of the famous Lodge on near the top of this Volcano.
4. What is the name of the Glacier right above the Lodge?
5. When you get to Bend, what is the river that runs through the city?
6. Directly West of Bed there are some very well known volcanos. One is a popular skiing site. The others are favorites with hikers and climbers.
