The excitement in our classroom this past week has been learning to use the laptop computers. Mr. Lauer taught the students how to enter the narrative pieces they are working on in a program on our web page. Now, not only are students practicing their keyboarding skills, but they are also learning how to edit their work on the computer. The program is set up so that I can access each student’s piece at school or at home. I can read what they have added to their story each day and write them a note about the highlights of it and what improvements could be worked on the next day. We are finding this to be a great way to communicate and are enjoying the process tremendously!
In reading all of our groups have been learning about the Amazon rain forest. Some have been studying the Yanomami people who live there, and the others have been studying the unusual land and its plants and animals. This week students will be doing research of their choice on the living things in this area of the world and using the laptops to access the information.
