Today we worked hard on decorating our Valentine Boxes for our “Friendship” party tomorrow. It is always fun seeing Kindergarteners creating something new. This week we are reading lots of books, and doing lots of writing and other activities based around friendship and caring. It is all so exciting for them.

We just received our adoption papers for our Giant Panda Baby from the San Diego Zoo. Attached you will see a picture of our baby. This week we will be writing letters to the zoo keepers at the San Diego zoo to ask questions about our baby and to see if we can get more information.

Our lead story this week is Seeds. It is an informational book about how seeds travel and grow. We will be doing whole group activities based on this story rather than worktime because we have so many other things happening with Valentine’s Day and the late opening.

In math we are focusing heavily on money and the value of the penny and the nickle. This is a brand new concept to most so we will be spending a fair amount of time learning about money and practicing money value through games and during Number Corner which is our calendar.  I am really pleased with how well they have done with the teen numbers. I am so excited to see them looking at numbers in chunks and using various strategies to count larger numbers.

I want to take a moment to once again thank all of my parent helpers. It is so nice to feel so supported by you all.
