Room 1 Class News Week of April 23rd

What a great job the students in Room 1 did last week with our Artist in Residence. We had so much fun creating our puppets and recreating the story of The Grouchy Ladybud by Eric Carle. If you were unable to attend, and would like to see the play, bring a blank disk to school. Rebekah Amodei recorded the play and will make a copy for those folks who would like it.

This week in Gym, we are learning a very basic version of kickball. We will be practicing and playing throughout the rest of the year. We will continue with yoga right up to the end of the school year. You are all invited to join us for yoga on Fridays at 1:40. You would be very impressed to see how the kids on our class can do yoga.

This week, we are shifting our focus to Antarctica. We are learning all about life in Antarctica. We read a non-fiction lead story called If You Lived in Antarctica. This week in worktime we will be writing facts about Antarctica, making a list of things you would need if you went there, drawing penguins and much more. This week we are also preparing for Art Night which is May 2nd. There will be a sign-up sheet outside the classroom for students to sign up to be docents on that night. It is optional for them, but I encourage them to do it. It is a wonderful opportunity for them to practice public speaking. The only requirement is that they are serious about it and they dress up in their nicest clothes.

Looking ahead, we will be getting to see the 5th graders in the play The Elves and The Shoemaker on Friday. Once again, mark your calendars for May 2nd for Family Art Night.
