Notes from Room 2 – Jan. 23

January 23, 2012

Kindergartners are busy at work and play in Room 2 this week. We started off our week reading an animal fantasy book called Little Quack. Students will be focusing on the plot, or sequence of events of this story, as well as working on identifying with the characters. We have been talking about what it feels like to be brave and proud. In math, we broke out a new work place that involves sea creatures! What fun the kids are having counting, sorting, and playing with this math manipulative! We will continue to observe our beans and will also be planting our them in soil this week. I hope they continue to grow after the cold we had last week. We will be breaking out the basketballs in gym this week, as well as playing the old favorite Duck, Duck, Goose. I will be out of the building on Friday, along with several other teachers, attending a Positive Behavior Management training for our building. I am really excited about this opportunity and look forward to putting it into practice in our classroom. Looking ahead – next week we have a field trip to the Portland Children’s Museum. If you haven’t been there, it is a wonderful hands-on play and exploration experience. The permission slips went home this Monday. Please return them asap and talk with me if you are interested in coming along! Scholastic Book orders are due this Friday, Jan. 27th. Thanks to all of the volunteer help – you are wonderful!
