We are spending our week with the Gingerbread Man. We are reading as many versions of this story as we can get our hands on! Kindergartners are comparing and contrasting the different stories events and doing a variety of fun activities around this theme. Please come into the classroom and see our gingerbread people! We played a new game of Cat and Mouse in gym – perhaps we should have called it Gingerbread boy and Fox! The cats really have to work together to catch those mice in this game. The kids enjoyed having a chance to be mice and sneak around avoiding the mouse trap. In writing we are working on expanding our stories by adding details. Everyone is making improvements here. We are sharing our writing with friends and learning so much about each other. Kids are eagerly working on their word rings and enjoying using the whiteboards to practice writing these words. Later in the week we will be making paper with Sandy Reid from “Talk about Trees” and meeting with our 3rd grade buddies for a winter break celebration.
Looking forward to the new year, we have lots of fun activities in the works for the kindergartners including an artist residency with Tears of Joys puppet theatre! We will be making puppets with a real puppeteer and culminating our experience with an in-classroom performance and a field trip to see the Tears for Joy production of Stella Luna. Have a wonderful and restful Winter Break!
