Last week for Math, we continued working on measuring volume, length, and weight. Students worked in pairs to measure each other’s height and weight, then compared those to their measurements at the beginning of the school year to see how much they have grown. On Tuesday, we made ice cream by measuring cream, sugar, and vanilla and putting them in a small Ziplock baggie. Then we measured ice and rock salt to add to a larger bag, then shook the ingredients for about 10 minutes until it was frozen. On Friday we did the Bridges Math activity, “Indy 500”. Students each chose a Hot Wheels car, then worked in pairs to race them down a small ramp three times. They measured each run, added the total distance, then found the difference between each car’s totals. This Monday students reviewed units and tools for measuring length, volume, and weight.
For Writing, we are working on our “Storytellers” unit. Students are finishing up book reports on last week’s read aloud book, Nate the Great. This week we are working as a class on brainstorming story elements to write silly stories. Next week students will begin to sketch out elements to write their own fictional stories. This Thursday, Nurse Sabrina will give a lesson on good oral health. We are doing our final preparations for Art Night this Thursday. The clay butterfly mobiles, watercolor paintings, and Comic Life projects are all on display, and three of our students have volunteered to be Art Docents (art explainers) and are rehearsing their jobs. We hope all the families can come to Art Night to see and celebrate all of the great works of art around the school!
