The children continue their study of bugs, their natural habitats, parts of their bodies and their life cycles. We now have our caterpillars who are changing daily; Kindergarten scientists are observing the life cycle and the caterpillars have formed their chrysalis’. Vocabulary words chrysalis, pupa, metamorphosis, scales, abdomen, thorax, proboscis, antennae and camouflage are part of each lesson. Other insects will also be introduced during the last two weeks of school. Our class has had the wonderful opportunity to be working with Zachary’s grandmother, Collin Murphy, an artist. She has taught a few lessons in art and children have really enjoyed it. They have created jellyfish, practiced printing techniques and will complete more art projects during the time we have left before school ends. Collin had donated time and supplies for her art and I am so grateful. On Monday, June 9, our class will walk to Berkeley Park in the afternoon with our buddy class for and end of the year celebration and ice cream sundae party. I will be sending home information this week; you are welcome to join us and help serve sundaes to the children-we would love to have you.
