Last Friday, we had our first meeting with our kindergarten buddy class. Children worked on drawing portraits of their buddies. It was a lot of fun to see the two groups blend so well together on our first meeting. One of our class’ Friday afternoon rituals is compliment circle. This happens during the last 15 minutes of the day. Compliment circle is a time for children to share how much they appreciate each other. Each child receives one compliment from a classmate. I have been impressed by the authenticity and heartfelt compliments that children give one another. This week in writing we will continue to work on strategies that help writers find topics to write about. In reading, we will focus on using our reading notebooks to begin recording thoughts about the books we’re reading. In math, children will begin working on building a portfolio based on pattern problems. In art, we are coming to the final stages of our Matisse inspired portraits.
