We’ve started a new math unit this week called “Sunken Ships and Grid Patterns”. Students learn to name and locate points on a coordinate grid with ordered pairs of numbers, both positive and negative. It is a very fun unit as the students make coordinate mystery pictures and play Sunken Ships, identifying points on a grid, very much like the game of Battleship!
in art we’ve been making books this fall for varying purposes. The first thing we did was each person made their own bookmaking tool, a bone folder. These are helpful in making crisp edges, as we fold and work with paper for the covers of our books. Our bone folders are not made from bone however, but from tongue depressors, which we sanded to a point at one end. They have become very useful tools. Some of the books we’ve made are in the display case by room 15. Check them out!
