Last week for Math, we did Touch Math and reviewed how to use the 100s chart. Our calendar markers for Number Corner this month are 3-D shapes: sphere, cube, triangular prism, cylinder, rectangular prism, and pyramid. In addition to Touch Math, this week students will use manipulatives on 100s charts to see what fraction (and percentage) each coin is of one dollar. We had our final Gardening session with Julia last week. We did some compost sorting, then cleaned out a flower bed so new plants could grow in it. Last Thursday, Nurse Sabrina joined us and talked to our students about dental health, then she showed a video that explains how important it is to keep your teeth clean.
Art Night was a big success! Our docents did a great job explaining the Butterfly Mobiles, the Butterfly paintings, and the Comic Life Project. Many of our students brought their parents to show off their great work, and to see what other students did around the school. For our Storytellers unit and Writing, students finished up their book reports last week for the Read Aloud story, Nate the Great. We have also been doing “Silly Story” activities to practice putting together story elements and writing stories. Students are now illustrating the stories as well. This week students will begin to map out story elements to write their own stories. Last Monday the weather was so nice that we did our Superflex activity outside. Pairs of students traced each other’s bodies on the sidewalk with chalk, then they drew more details to make themselves look like Superflex characters with capes.
