Last week we started off our Folktales and Fairy Tales unit with a love story on Valentine’s Day– Cinderella. Then the rest of the week we read various versions of The Three Pigs, beginning with some traditional tellings, then finishing with The True Story of the Three Pigs. Students compared similarities and differences between the versions, then on Friday they made puppets and houses and took turns doing their own Three Pigs puppet shows. For writing, the first, second, and fourth grad students are also writing their own versions of The Three Pigs. For Math, we worked on addition, with a review of strategies for regrouping.
This week we are reading versions of Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Rapunzel. For Art, students have been working on watercolor paintings of parts of Tulip trees, which we will laminate and hang around the tree we planted. The class has also come up with a list of possible nicknames for the tree, and we will have a vote this week. We celebrated the 100th day of school with some poems, games, and activities. Students are working on a math packet this week that focuses on the number 100. The letter of the week is “V” and word families include “vote”, “vase”, “vine”, and “very”.
