During our short week, we continued learning Touch Math strategies for counting back and subtracting. We also did Bridges Number Corner activities to chart the number of days we’ve been in school, to tell time to the nearest five minutes, and to find ways to make coin values for items up to 99 cents. This week we will begin learning Touch Math strategies for double-digit addition. We will also play some Bridges math games, including a coin-adding game “Three Turns to Win”, and a minute-adding game “An Hour or Bust”. For Writing, students wrote on personal topics including “My Proudest Moment”, which they shared this Monday with the class.

This week we are reviewing how to write and send letters through the “Lewis Postal Service”. We are also working on writing a paragraph titled “Five Things I’m Thankful For”. For Reading, we are reading about Thanksgiving in the United States, and comparing it to other Harvest festivals around the world. For Art, we are making scarecrow heads using paper bags and cutout facial features. This Friday we plan to do a walking trip to Safeway to buy items for our own Charlie Brown Thanksgiving! Look for the note home with the details.
