This week in music I’m passing out permission forms for 3rd Grade Recorder, 4th Strings and 5th Grade Band. There will also be a sign up sheet for Booming Beats during our 4th and 5th grade music times. I will keep extra copies of these permission slips on the piano in the music room.
In the primary grades we are motoring around the room. We are taking basic actions like, walking, sitting, standing and lying. We are combing these actions with tempo changes like fast/slow. This is the basis on which we will build our dance/movement vocabulary. From here we will be adding rhythm, duration, phrasing, levels, etc. The first part of the year we are approaching music through our bodies. As one of my teachers used to tell me, “if your body can’t do it, you’ll never get that instrument to do it.” Our body is the first instrument we work on, next comes the voice and finally classroom instruments.
