***Our Egyptian masks are fabulous! This week’s dazzling art helping heroes are parents Amanda, Betsy, Jessie, Siobhan and Rebecca. The children are so excited about their projects and it has been an incredible, wild and exciting experience. Today was our fourth and final day. After adding “jewels” and all the other final touches, we had a classroom parade of masks. Then, in groups of three, the children came forward and got to circle in front of the group, in the style of their creation. Would it be the proud walk of the pharoah, the slithering of the cobra or the dance of the conniving jackal? After that, each child had the opportunity to describe their favorite part of our special art residency. Our thanks to our artist in residence, Maranee Sanders, who has been our guide.
***We had another yoga/relaxation session with Nurse Sabrina which the children loved. Many thanks to Sabrina for taking the time to offer this opportunity.
***The class was really involved in an excellent Recycling presentation we had in our class last week. The speaker built a lot of awareness about the ideas of reducing, reusing and recycling. In fact Alex was so motivated that he grabbed a couple of empty containers from our recycling bin to head home and start inventing!
***Homework this week includes two entries in the reading folder, an entry in their personal journals, an I/Me worksheet and writing a paragraph of things learned after reading The National Geographic Explorer each child received.
***We are beginning a new unit in Math which will entail working with higher numbers, money and place value.
***I got to do an afterschool teacher training last week that had us looking at how to aesthetically scan a piece of art, be it print, carving, tapestry or public art. It was great to be able to come together and discuss art and how to best present it to our students as well as use it in our own lives.
***Another reminder that our class’ choir performance is Tuesday, March 20th at 7 pm. We really need every child to be there. The children have been working with our volunteer choir director, Miss Michelle, for a few weeks now and are anxious to share their songs. We will be adding a few favorites that we love to sing in class. So, invite Grandma, grab your cameras and plan to join us. Children will need to arrive before 7 pm, so as soon as I get all the details from Miss Michelle, I will share them with you!
