***The Primary Team’s assembly last week was fantastic! It was an Oregon Children’s Theatre production so the acting was top notch. The set design was colorful and exciting. “Pedro’s Path to Power” taught the students about safety measures around electricity as well as some ideas for conserving energy.
***Our interactive read aloud story this week is “Tara and Tiree, Fearless Friends.” Have your child practice retelling you the story about these two brave dogs. Next, they could sing you our new song, “To the Rescue.” We have been discussing the following vocabulary words: courageous, hazard, rescue, avalanche, instinct, skittish, blustery and fast-paced.
***In Writer’s Workshop, we are beginning a new unit of study on Personal Narratives, or in other words, writing about our own lives. Some goals that we will be focusing on are moving through a logical sequence of events with a clear beginning, middle and end, “zooming” in on the most important part of their narrative, incorporating characters, setting, events and personal reactions as well as doing some editing and revision.
*** We’re continuing our Balance and Motion Science unit. Having completed how to use counterweights to find a stable position, we’re moving on to Spinners and discovering different ways to produce rotational motion. The class loves putting on their imaginary lab coats and becoming scientists!
