***Today Marie Blanchard, my former second grade student who is now fifteen, made a presentation about living with cerebral palsy. It was outstanding! I think we learned a lot about how we are really all the same.
***Our student Martha Tekie made a wonderful presentation of her own about the African country of her family, Eritrea. She even showed us a drum and a special baby carrier.
***We are going to have two more special guest speakers this week. Miss Julia, our Americorps volunteer and the Safe Routes to School people will be doing a mapping activity in our class on Tuesday. Then on Thursday, Ramone Preciado will be teaching us about Los Posados.
***The children are still buzzing about the Audubon Society doing a special class for the second graders on owls! It was terrific!
***We are nearly finished with our study of winter celebrations around the world. We’ve talked about Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and St. Lucia Day in Sweden and about Sinterklaus in Holland.
