***Today we went on an exciting field trip to Whitaker Pond in N.E. Portland. It is located just north of Columbia Blvd. on 47th Ave. The children got to take a close peek at the organisms and wildlife that exist in this natural pond habitat. While half of the class took a nature walk around the pond, the other half became scientists and headed to the dock. Using nets, we captured many organisms in our samples of pond water. We examined the tiny fish, larvae and insects closely and classified them using the “bug charts.” The most exciting part of the trip was hearing the squawk of a blue heron and watching it soar overhead. Thanks to Julie (Shea’s mom) for joining us.
***We’re looking forward to some special harvest fun on Wednesday with a craft, a gooey science project and perhaps a pumpkin muffin and some apple cider to top it all off!
