Ms. Sarah’s Classroom Notes

We are having a great week in Room 3! It feels like we are almost settled and routines are becoming more familiar. This is such a wonderful group of learners. We spend time each day discussing and reflecting on what we do and I am continually amazed by the children’s insights! As you may have seen, I hung a volunteer sign-up sheet outside the classroom. If you are able to help out once a week, it really makes a big difference in what we are able to do in class. The sign-up sheet only indicates morning times, but I would love to invite you to join us in the afternoon, as well. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are particularly good, but you are welcome any time. If you’re not sure, just check in with me in advance. In reading, we are working hard to identify “just right” books. We are also focusing on good reading behaviors. Kids love reading in Room 3 and really enjoy our reading time. In math, we have learned two new games this week; Compare and Double Compare. Both can be played at home. If you would like directions, please let me know and I will be happy to send a copy home with you. I appreciate the way you are reading with your child and recording what they are reading. Keep up the good work! Please remember to ask for your child’s “Take-Home Folder” EVERY day. Often there is important information in there that you will need to see. This week began the “kick off” for the first Lewis PTA fundraiser. You are welcome to participate if you like. All proceeds benefit the many things PTA does to support the school and its learners. Also, Run for the Arts sponsor forms went home today. We are “running” early this year. This is a great way to promote health and help our school provide rich arts experiences for the students. Enjoy the remainder of this sunny week. All too soon the rain will be here!
