Thank you all for the wonderful treats last week during Staff Appreciation! I think I can speak for all the staff at Lewis when I say how lucky we all feel to work with such wonderful children and families. This is a short week but a fun week with Spirit Week happening! It is important to have the conversation with your child that while it is fun to dress up, it is important to remain focused and respectful during our learning times. Thanks for your help with this. This week, we will have a guest teacher here on Thursday and Friday, as I am heading to OMSI camp with the 5th graders! For those of you that have a child there this week, I will make sure to keep an eye out for them. Ms. Patricia is here and I know I am leaving the students in very capable hands. One thing I am worried about is making sure you all remember that Monday is our field trip to the Oregon Zoo. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately, lunches are in a brown paper sack and everyone is ready for a wonderful day! A reminder note will be sent home this Friday. This week we finished up our Eric Carle inspired caterpillars. They are darling! The students enjoyed another gardening session with Ms. Julia. Our farm unit in math continues. This week students will have the opportunity to purchase, cattle, pigs and chickens! Their farms are quite amazing and they are becoming skilled money managers. We are reading about Ben Franklin this week, which ties in nicely with our All About writing. There is still a lot to do in the short time that remains of this school year. I will be doing one more final push with assessments next week. It feels like we will be tying up the final pieces until the very last minute! Don’t worry, we also have a lot of fun and special things planned, as well. Thank you all for keeping our Volunteer Calendar filled up. I have June ready to go. Stop by and see what dates are available to help. I may ask you to do a different activity with us during that last week, as we will work together to shut down the room for the year and get everything organized. We will also have a celebration with our buddy class that I will need some help with, so stay tuned! Lastly, homework can be returned either this Friday, or on Monday.
