Boy, time is flying! It seems every time I look at the calendar, another week has past and we are getting very close to the end of a wonderful year together. In reading, students are making great progress with making inferences. This is something that can easily be reinforced at home when reading together, or when using less common vocabulary. This week we began our final writing unit, which focuses on informational writing. It is a perfect unit, given we are learning so much about insects. Speaking of insects, this week we welcomed a new insect to our room. We now have Painted Lady caterpillars to observe and document. We have started a very fun art project using painted paper to create our own caterpillars in the style of Eric Carle. Last week we made a variety of painted paper in both warm and cool colors. This week we painted a background and began cutting out our pieces. Next week, we will put it all together. I will hang them in the hall when they are finished! We had a second session of gardening yesterday. Students saw a variety of creatures while outside. What fun! Yesterday I sent home permission slips for our upcoming trip to the zoo. Please get those back as soon as possible. (They must be back next Tuesday, at the latest.) I have scheduled our trip to the Cooly Art Gallery for the the 6th of June. I will be sending a permission slip for that trip early next week. That will be a walking field trip and I welcome parents to join us. This will be our last week of library with Ms. Tori. Moms, I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day! Your children adore you! Thank you all for the support and love you provide your child. It makes such a difference and is greatly appreciated.
