It was a delight to be back in the class on Monday. We had many interesting tales to share. On Tuesday, the Right Brain Spring Reflection Colloquium was an excellent event. Mr. Colvin, Ms. Tori, and I braved downtown and met up with one of Lewis’ dedicated RBI parent liaisons, Sarah. It was a benefit to see and hear about the artistic successes other schools. The experience also reiterated just how remarkable Lewis Elementary is in embracing art and music throughout the year. Thank you for backing these vital forms of expression. As Featured Teacher, select photos of our class have been enlarged, die-cut, and are now hanging in three picture windows of the Ford Building at 2505 SE 11th Avenue. In 1914, the Ford Motor Company constructed this building as an assembly plant for its Model-T automobile. Now, you can see children from Room 17 larger than life in the Fiction storefront! It is a wonderful display.

This morning, our class was invited next door for a shadow puppet play, presented by Ms. Davis and myself. An old-fashioned overhead projector was used as a light source. Developing mini fables has been a highlight of writing this week. Student will begin creating their own animal shadow puppet once their stories are complete and compelling. For math today, our class is being filmed to show how one can use sentence frames to support learning. Our concept of the week is average/mean. One week from today, we are planning to delve into Bridges Math Unit 8, which is all about bridges. We will examine various kinds of bridges, so we can determine just what types cross over the Willamette River. A reminder that May 22^nd marks our adventure to the Historic Belmont Firehouse. We will be boarding bus 75 at 9:55am Tuesday for a 10:30 tour. Afterwards, we will picnic at Laurelhurst Park before our 1:15pm bus back to Lewis. Sound intriguing? Why not join in the festivities?
