I am so pleased with the students’ progress in working with fractions. Today we wrote number sentences such as 1/4 x 2 = 1/2, 1/16+1/16=1/8, and 3/4-4/16=1/2. The big idea hasn’t been mastered, but we’re on our way toward understanding how the parts of a whole can be compared and manipulated! IXL Math has a few great practices for multiplication and fractions both, hint, hint… Our study of Portland’s early history is getting interesting. The students completed the mural for “The Clearing,” today. On Thursday, David Stone, a local “Oregon historian” will come to talk with our students about their studies and answer questions. And then, on Friday, we have our field trip to the Portland Art Museum to see their Native American collection. Students (and chaperones) must be at the classroom by 8:15 Friday morning. We have to leave school early in order to catch our bus and arrive in time for our tour. Please take a look at our posterous site to see some cooperative writers at work and a recent art piece. I’m expecting our Scholastic book order to arrive around May 8th and we’ll have one more chance to order before the end of the year.
