Finally some nice weather has come our way! We’re going to try and take advantage of this and get outside for some of our lessons during the week.
We are going to finish up our Lewis and Clark unit this week. Most students have finished or are getting close to finishing the biography of a participant in the expedition and most have started on the portrait. I am hoping to have students record their biographies so we can add them to our class blog at mrcolvin.wordpress.com.
Please note that there was an error regarding the date of the Bonneville Dam field trip. It was listed as being on the 31st of May, but it is actually going to be on the 24th. Our next few field trips are as follows:
Clean Water Festival PCC Sylvania campus Tuesday, April 26
Philip Foster Farms Eagle Creek , OR Thursday, April 28
Lelooska Village Ariel, WA Thursday, May 19
Bonneville Dam Bonneville , OR Tuesday, May 24 (note correct date here!)
“A Wrinkle In Time” Oregon Children’s Theater Thursday, June 2
We are also going to try to squeeze a walking field trip down to Reed College to visit the Cooley Gallery which has a calligraphy exhibit on display. Details will be sent home when we finalize the date for this trip.
In math we will focus on time and money this week. In addition, we will be using the Khan Academy khanacademy.org as part of our math rotations. The Khan Academy is a powerful tool that allows students to proceed at their own pace and get instruction from short videos if they need help on a math concept. Students can access this resource at home by logging in with their lewiselementary.org username and password. Several students have been putting a lot of effort into learning new areas of math. For homework this week, the math packet is due on Friday.
