Classroom Notes From Ms. Ross, Third Grade

There is a lot of excitement in our class. Students have started to write their rough drafts for their speeches. Since the speeches are based on the students’ favorite books, many students have been eagerly sharing their copies of their books. I anticipate that we will start to practice delivering the speeches next week. When the students are ready, I will film, and I will score the speeches for the students’ speech work sample. Besides working on speeches, some students will be working on scripts, based on our class reading of Mr. Popper’s Penguins. This will be used to perform a puppet show of Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
This week we have a spelling list. While the students are introduced to the words during Monday’s homework, it is still important that they review the words on Thursday for the Friday spelling test. Please remind your student how important it is to restudy the words the night before the spelling test.
ALERT: Some students are coming to school with flip-flops. This type of footwear is not safe on the playground or in our garden. I know the girls love wearing flip-flops when the sun comes out, but for safety reasons a closed shoe would be preferable. Thanks for your help.
