A big thank you to all the parents that chaperoned on our musical field trip to Keller Auditorium: Stephanie Sook, Laurie Wilson, and Eric Sklarz. We left and returned with the same number of students, which was no easy feat with a packed house of highly excited children. Please let grandparents know that we still need more chaperones with processed criminal history records. I’m not allowed to take anyone who has not filled in one of these forms.
We are finishing the state math assessment this week. Some students have reported to me that the test was easy; others have said that it was a challenge. None of them seemed to be overwhelmed, even though some of the math material has not been covered at this date. While there is a lot of political pressure to have all of our students reach the state benchmarks on these tests, teachers, parents, and students need to understand that this is only one component in the assessment process of our students.
The two day writing workshop that all of the intermediate teachers went to last week was very informative. We all came back with many ideas that we want to implement in our classrooms. These new teaching strategies will make us more effective teachers for the variety of learners in our classrooms.
