Classroom Notes from Mrs. Ross, Third Grade, Room 17

The third grade students proudly carried their amazing bridges into school last week. Anna Davis and I showcased them in the school hall. All the students had the opportunity to present their bridges to their class. Many of them were truly awe inspiring. What was especially fun was to see the variety of different materials, which were used to construct the bridges. Some students told us that the original materials had been too challenging, such as, Angel Hensley’s marshmallows. Then they changed their material to wood or cardboard and were successful. It didn’t matter whether the bridges ended up being simple or complex, all the students achieved a deeper understanding about the construction of bridges.
I am pleased to report that we have seven parent chaperones signed-up for our Portland walking tour. This means that each group is small with lots of adult attention. I will send home to the chaperones a detailed outline of the downtown walking tour that I have planned.
There are two more events the last week of school. On Tuesday, June 12th, we are visiting Berkeley Park with our kindergarten buddies. We are going to eat watermellon, and we are going to blow all types of bubbles. If you would like to accompany us on this fun trip, let me know. Also, we are having a class party on June 14th, next to the last day of school. I will place a sign-up list by the classroom door so that you can donate a snack, drink, prize, or activity. Parent helpers would be greatly appreciated. All of the students work will go home on this day, so please provide an extra paper bag for this purpose.
