You probably found last weeks notes a bit confusing because they were not mine, but some of the second grade notes. Therefore, I will give you last weeks updated notes.
We enjoyed our visit to Hoyt Arboretum today and we were grateful to have so many helpful volunteers accompany us. This enabled us to have small groups, which made it extra pleasurable learning about the native and non-native plants of Portland. I want to thank the following chaperones: Abeba Gebtemicael, Diane Gibson, Genet Tekie, Anna Holenstein, Kate Paasch, and Shelly Brown.
We are nearly finished with our expressionistic portrait paintings. It is very exciting to see the students’ vision slowly appear. These mixed media art projects express and heighten a mood or feeling. Therefore the paintings should surprise the viewer, not be representational. Don’t forget that next week is “Art Night” on Thursday, May 7th.
For the last two weeks of spelling, I am asking the students to study a list of third grade high frequency words. Most of these words the students know already, but we want to catch any words that has not been memorized so far. I will randomly select twelve words each week for the Friday spelling test.
Monday, May 4th , will be the second round of state math testing. Please make sure your child has enough sleep on Sunday night.
