Welcome back to First Grade! I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving and thank you to each one of you who came to conferences last week. I appreciated learning more about you and your child and especially how they are feeling about school. One thing I want to be sure all families know is that the weekly home practice is meant to be done with an adult supporting their efforts. Most of the children in my classroom are not able to read all the directions that are given in order to accomplish the home work activities. Also, if your child wants more to do each week, you can expand on any of the suggested practice work I send home with them or venture online. Just Google:” activities for primary school children” and many sites will show up. As you know, be sure to check the sites out before having your child spend time with them. If you were unable to attend the Parent/ Teacher Conferences please email me to set up a time to meet. This week we are settling back into our daily routines: A.M. Work and Meeting Time, Work Time Centers and Reading Circles, Writers Workshop, Math, Science and P.E./Library/Music. We are past the 50th day of school now and are practicing counting by fives and tens daily. We are also continuing on with number sense, putting numbers together and taking them apart. A big thanks to The Helping Hands for assistance on in class projects and to those of you volunteering in class each week, it helps us all so much! Have a great week, and remember that this Friday is a teacher planning day and school will not be in session. abuckley@pps.k12.or.us
