The last few days of First Grade have arrived for you and your child. It is hard to believe summer break is right around the corner and it is wonderful to see all the growth that has taken place in our year together in Room 6. What a great group of children this has been. So much creativity, willingness to participate in activities and interest in learning. The students grew in their abilities to share feelings and resolve problems, loved books, writing and doing math, (using their great math brains!), were curious nature detectives as we explored insects. animals, amphibians and rocks. Students have gone from beginning readers to fluent readers, from timid to confident, from counting to 10 to writing to 100 and adding, subtracting and solving story problems to 20! It’s one of the many things I love about First Grade… seeing this amazing spurt of growth in learning and social skills. THANK YOU FAMILIES for all your support of your child’s education! We are linked together and as you sat and listened to your child read, helped with homework, read to them, helped with lunches and lost library books and talked with your child about what they were learning and experiencing in school, you demonstrated how much you value education and care about your child. Together: Caring Adults, children and teachers…we make it happen!:)
This week and next we are continuing our daily schedule as usual to provide reliable structure to these next four school days together. We will have an end of year event next Tuesday if you would like to send a treat to share, (keep an eye out for more info to come). Also, look for your child’s writing and art portfolios to come home soon, (to be looked through together and cheered!) The kids worked hard on all their art and writing projects and it really shows:) Thanks again to all the folks who lent us a hand in and out of the classroom this year, the next years teachers will be very lucky to have you!
