This week I have started end of the year assessments in Reading. The assessments consist of a Phonics Survey and an Informal Reading Inventory.
For the Reading Inventory, I choose a book that the student can read independently. As the student is reading I am listening for fluency and checking for accuracy. After the student finishes reading, I check their comprehension of the story by having the student retell the story and/or I ask explicit questions relating to the story.
I am encouraging the children to get enough rest and to bring a healthy snack to school every day.
We had our first meeting with Lisa Wilcke on Tuesday. The students were very creative! They made some awesome necklaces. Thank you Monica for volunteering.
On Thursday afternoon the students and Lisa will start to put together the six-panel glass representation of a pond.
We are Reading Buddies with Ms. Dana’s Kindergarten class. On Tuesday, June 12th we will be going to Berkeley Park for an end of the year celebration. We are planning to have ice cream cones for the students. There will be a list of items we will need for our celebration. I will place the Donation Sheet on the wall beside our door. Please sign-up if you would like to join us on June 12th.
I will send a handout with the information today.
Thank you for your continued support.
