By Tony Jamesbarry

It’s the first week of March and spring is on its way. Kindergarten and 1st graders are playing a collection of circle games that requires them to create a unique motion that not only repetitive but also accents the beat. They really love these games as it gives them a chance to show their classmates what they can do. 2nd graders are working to combine a student created dance with the orff piece “Dancing Snowflakes”. 3rd Graders putting the finishing touches on their piece in the Mixolydian mode “Round Robin Rondo”. The 4th and 5th grades are taking a break from the instrumental studies this week to kick up their heels on the “Heel and Toe Polka” and to test the stick flipping and tossing skills with a Maori stick game.
I also want to introduce my student teacher Britney Soper. Britney comes to us from Warner Pacific College. She’s a wonderful flutist and has already made a great connection with the students at Lewis. Britney will be spending two days a week with us for then next couple of months. If you see her in the music room please give her a warm welcome.
