Tuesday through Friday, Mrs. Kelli Joy will be teaching for me, while I have required surgery. Expecting a quick recovery, I plan on returning Monday, March 8th. Mrs. Joy is a wonderful teacher and is looking forward to teaching your children. Many fun math and science activities have been planned. In recent lessons and conversations words like shape, form, and geometric have been popping up. You might have even noticed the geometry in our homework the past few weeks. Our math will now focus on a more in depth look at geometry. In science we will begin to explore Pebbles, Sand, and Silt. Our learning will be experiential and we will follow up with a visit to the Rice Rock Museum in April. This trip always leaves the children in awe of rocks. Our world is filled with lines and shapes. When looking at a painting can we identify the shapes as real, or are they organic? First we looked at a painting by John Singer Sargent and identified real objects: a mother and child, a boat, water, sky, and trees. Next we looked at the painting Counter Gravity, by Wassily Kandinsky, but could not name any objects, just lines and shapes. We also thought about emotions each painting expressed. Look for our abstract paintings in the hall at the end and outside our door.
