Gung Hay Fat Choy! Last Sunday began the Asian Lunar New year of the Tiger! We are exploring the many ways Asian Lunar New year is celebrated across the world! Writing and painting with ink and Japanese horse hair brushes, taste testing a variety of traditional New Years foods and creating lion puppets and little books. Tuesday was spent learning more about our early presidents. We made a log cabin from pretzels, wrote about what we would do if we were president and read several books about the life and times of Washington and Lincoln. Please drop by to see some of our work outside room 6. I hope your three day weekend was relaxing and fun for you and your family! In the classroom each morning we do Work Time Centers that revolve around our lead Story and/or theme for the week/month. We are having an Asian Lunar culminating event on Friday with lion dancers performing on our stage in the afternoon.Thursday, (tomorrow), all first graders will have vision, hearing and dental screenings in the morning. Spring has sprung early this year and with our sunny days we are able to look closely at the beautiful buds and sprouts that are now appearing. We went to the Outdoor Center with Teacher Julia and worked to spread new bark on paths while noticing the appearance of signs of spring. We are keeping a growth diary on our window beans and observing tree branches as they flower in our large classroom vase. Please sign up to volunteer outside our door, we love to have you with us:)
