This week we continue with the Fairy Tale Genre. Today in library, students were looking at the elements of the genre and making connections with the folk tale Ms. Tori was reading. We began our study of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We worked on the setting of the story and sequencing the events in the story. We also did a readers’ theater and made an edible story map.
In math, we continue working on our geometry unit. We played a game called Last Shape Wins. Students had to fill in a large diamond shape with triangles, hexagons, rhombi, and trapezoids. As students chose a shape to fill in the large diamond, we talked about the shape by its attributes and asked students to guess which shape we were choosing.
In writing, we continue our focus on ‘how to’ directions. We are rereading the pieces we wrote on classroom routines to work on including all of the important details. Students worked as partners to clarify the directions they wrote. Next week, we will write our own ‘how to’ directions.
