After sharing what we did for the break, it sounds like all the students and their families had a festive time. Just before the break we had a good week doing holiday activities. Students used Comic Life to make greeting cards. We used green and red paint to paint Christmas trees. On Friday we did a Holiday ABCs, naming holiday words for each letter of the alphabet. We read stories by a virtual fireplace (video projected on the whiteboard), and played Buzzword to test students’ story comprehension.
For January, our theme is the Five Senses. This week we are focussing on the sense of hearing, with listening activities, music, sound effects, and reading Horton Hears a Who. The letter of the week is O, and we will focus on the short, long, and double-o sounds in words. We are also spending some time this week to review the classroom rules and routines. On Monday Mr. Lee brought in a game called A to Z– students chose a topic such as “things made of metal”, then brainstormed words and pushed the letter that each word begins with.
