Notes From Ms. Leake

Halloween, a full moon, and blustery days!!! I wish that I could harness the energy of my 1st grade friends:-).  Now that we’ve practiced working quietly,  we’ve started our worktime literacy centers. Students are reading ‘just right’ books from their book tubs and are learning to look over their work to do their personal best.

In math, we’re focusing on breaking apart and putting together numbers with sums to 10.  We’ve talked about how numbers work with strategies such as +/- 0 and 1, doubles/neighbors, and fast tens.  Our whole group lessons also focus on copying, extending, and creating patterns.  Today we made a triangle out of 3 triangle pattern blocks, then challenged to class to see how many triangles you would need to make the next biggest triangle and so on.

Please continue working on coins by name and value.  Then play the coins on board grid game and count the total of coins that you used.
