Garden Work Party: Thank You Volunteers

On Thursday morning we had a great turn out for our garden work party. A dedicated group of volunteers worked to weed the Butterfly Garden located on the west side of the school. They also laid a new layer of bark mulch in the beds. We thank our volunteers for their work and support of our school. The garden looks great.

Arts Attack Curriculum

Over the summer we have had a project up at Donors Choose, that if funded, would allow us to buy the Arts Attack curriculum for our school. This curriculum package would help us supplement and expand the work taking place by our teachers to achieve our goal of 3 – 5 art projects per month. The curriculum package includes teacher lesson plans, high quality art prints, DVD sample lessons, and background information to help teachers implement these high quality lessons.

Today we are starting to make a push to see if we can get the project fully funded. Out PTA has indicated that they will help fund this project, but we would like to see if we can enlist the support of our larger school community to publicize and encourage others who might be inclined to make a donation to help us achieve our goal.

Class Placement Letters –

Class placement letters will be mailed home on Monday, August 23, 2010. These letters will have student placement information, along with a welcome from your child’s new teacher, and information about the start of school. A reminder that school begins for our first – fifth grade students on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. The first day of Kindergarten will be Friday, September, 10, 2010.

Fire Lane

Parking Lot Situation and our Fire lane: PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE FIRE LANE
A reminder that we will soon be enforcing a no parking policy in the fire lane area in the parking lot. Recently we have begun to post informational “tickets” on car windshields that are parked in the fire lane. Today the fire lane area began to be painted and we plan to enforce the no parking policy starting next week…

Kindergarten Round Up Meetings Scheduled

This winter Lewis will be offering two informational meetings for prospective kindergarten families. The dates and times are listed below. We also offer tours of the school each Wednesday in January and February except for the late opening days, (Jan. 20 & Feb 17)

Our next Lewis Eats Out event will take place Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at The Funky Door on SE 28th and Holgate. A portion of the sales on Tuesday will be donated to the Lewis PTA to support PTA programs at Lewis. Please plan to visit The Funky Door on Tuesday and support Lewis.
