Lewis Community Dinner

On Friday, May 15, 2009 the Lewis PTA sponsored a community dinner. We would like to thank all those that took part and would especially like to thank Julia Hamlin and our PTA, and our many parent volunteers for making the event a success.

We will be hosting a community dinner at the school featuring local, seasonal food. The menu includes Spring Minestrone Soup, Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Fresh Green Salad, Farro Salad with Peas, Asparagus and Feta, fresh bread, and a Strawberry Rhubarb Compote over ice cream for dessert. Dessert will be served in the school garden. There will be a suggested donation of $5-$10

Run for the Arts

We had a beautiful day for our annual Run for the Arts. We would like to thank our students, staff and parent volunteers for their help in making this such a great event

Run For The Arts: Rescheduled for Friday

Our run has been rescheduled for Friday, May 1. We are looking for volunteers to help during the run to hand out water and snacks, count laps, and process pledge sheets (after the run). We are looking for parents and community members to help with the run. To volunteer, please call Julie LaRoche at 503.754.8996.

There are 20 school days in May – how many days do you think you can use your leges to get school? Look for pledge tables near the front office and outside between now and May 1. Your first opportunity is this Thursday morning when you check in for Walk & Bike Day. Garden Social and Plant Swap Scheduled

Garden Social and Plant Swap – Wednesday April 15th from 3:00-4:30
Come check out the garden, eat some healthy after school snacks, enjoy a performance by our 4th Grade Strings and swap plants. Collections for the plant swap was on Friday. We would like to collect all of the plants prior to the event. If you are unable to attend Friday please call Nadja at 503-777-7158 and a different drop off can be arranged. Run For the Arts Kickoff Assembly

Young AudiencesOn Monday, April 6, 2009 at 1:30 pm we will hold our Run for the Arts kickoff assembly. Our run is scheduled for Wednesday April 29. The money raised from Run for the Arts helps to fund arts programs at our school. For the past few years we have used these funds to provide each classroom with a drama residency. As part of our kickoff we are very happy to have scheduled a special performance by the musical group Trashcan Joe. We would like to thank Young Audiences for sponsoring this performance.

METRO 2009 Earth Day Billboard Finalists

METRO Billboard Contest
I am happy to report that seven designs submitted by Lewis Elementary School students were selected as finalists in the 2009 METRO Earth Day Billboard contest. Nearly 1,700 entries were received from elementary students and from those entries 92 were selected as finalists. Their artwork is currently displayed in the METRO lobby and can be seen at the Earth Day Art Show on Saturday, April 4 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Congratulations to Kay, Easton and Henry from 4th grade, and to Lynda, Destyni, Antonia and Laura from 5th grade.

Lewis Elementary Auction Preview Site Available

The Lewis Elementary School Auction will take place on Thursday, March 5 at the Bosa Nova Ballroom. The Bosa Nova Ballroom is located at 722 East Burnside in Portland. Auction tickets are available in the school office.

Community Dinner

This Friday, February 20th we are hosting a community dinner at Lewis in the evening from 6:00-7:30 p.m. We are preparing and eating a meal together featuring local, seasonal foods. All food will be provided, just show up. We are asking for a suggested donation of $5-$10 per family to cover our costs.

Butterfly Garden Work Party Tuesday

Foggy Tuesday at Lewis We will be holding a Butterfly Garden Work Party on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 from 9:00 am to noon. Julia Hamlin will lead volunteers in cleaning up our garden beds for winter.
