On Friday, May 18, 2012 we held our annual Spring Community Dinner in our school cafeteria. Again this year, Chef David Anderson of Genoa and Accanto Cafe prepared a dinner for our community. We would like to thank David and his crew for their generous support. Also a big thank you to all of our volunteers who worked to set up and clean up for the event. May Walk and Bike Challenge

Lewis Elementary is participating in the May Walk and Bike to School Challenge sponsored by Safe Routes to School. This is a friendly competition among our elementary and middle schools to encourage families to use alternative/active transportation to get to and from school. Every day in May students from Mr. Marchyok’s 4th grade class will be visiting each classroom to collect data on how students get to school. Students will then analyze the data and display weekly totals on the bulletin board in “The Dip”. Remember that “park and walk” counts, too (you can park 2-3 blocks away and walk to school).

Lewis Elementary School Podcast: Deborah Swan

This edition of the Lewis Elementary School Podcast features an interview with 2nd grade teacher, Deborah Swan. Ms. Swan has worked at Lewis for 25 years and helps lead our Art Night event. In this interview she discusses the history of Art Night at Lewis and some of the background regarding the event.

Lewis Family Dance & Sing-Along

Our 4th grade teachers Mr. Colvin and Mr. Marchyok, along with Mr. Jamesbarry, are hosting a family dance and sing along on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 6:30-8:00 pm. Proceeds will help to fund various 4th grade field trips associated with Oregon history. Admission is $2 or $6 per family. Tickets will be available at the door.

Lewis Garden Fair

On Saturday, April 21, 2012 the 3rd annual Lewis Garden Fair and Plant Sale was held. We would like to thank all those that came out to support our school, and would especially like to thank our many volunteers who worked to make the event possible.

Drama Club Production

Our Lewis Drama Club has been hard at work preparing for their performances next week. This year our club will be presenting The Elves and the Shoemaker. Performances are set for:

Friday, April 27, 2012 – 6:30 pm
Saturday, April 28, 2012 – 2:00 pm.

Selected scenes from the play will prefer formed for students on Thursday afternoon.

You are cordially invited to visit Lewis Elementary on the evening of May 3, 2012 as our school is transformed into a gallery of student art work. In addition, music students from our Recorder Club, Instrumental Band, Strings and Orff Ensemble will be performing. Once again food and drinks will be available in our Paintbrush Cafe. Please join us for an evening of music and art.
