On Labor Day, bring your neighborhood picnic to the Time-Based Art Festival. With a flurry of planting, harvesting, and cooking, Slow Food Portland will take over the Washington High School lawn to stage a sprawling picnic that reframes an abandoned lot within an urban grid of neighborhoods and gardens.
This picnic is more than a potluck, it’s also sending a message from Slow Food and school-lunch advocates to Congress: It’s time to provide America’s children with real food at school. Thankfully, Portland Public Schools is ahead of the game. Read about the work that Portland Public Schools is already doing to bring healthy lunches to school kids here.
Bring a meal you’ve prepared yourself, grown in your garden, or foraged from local farmers. Share in the making of community and the making of a feast.
